Rear bumpers, chrome or grey?
« on: April 07, 2015, 08:12:19 am »
I'd like to replace my rear bumper, most of the ones i'm finding are chrome. Did the standard pkg. c-10's like scottsdale, cheyenne, bonanza, etc. come with grey or chrome from factory?   Is a rear chrome bumper normal???   I know the front is normally chrome.  This is in reference to a 1977 chevy Bonanza c-10.

There were different variations in bumpers..

Sport front and rear in chrome
Sport front in chrome and rear step in chrome
Painted front with painted rear step

I'm sure there were others.

Painted bumpers were standard on base trucks.  Rears are only chrome from the factory.

Are the blazer bumpers different, even though the bolts line up?

Bumpers are the same but the frame brackets differ between the trucks and Suburban/Blazers

Ok, here is the rear bumper after installing new brackets and bolts.  Everything seems to line up, but it dosn't sit straight.

The frames on the Blazers angle down in back, that is why it isn't straight.  You know that is the 81-87 bumper?

I found a couple of pictures, first is the correct rear bumper for your truck and the second one is a picture of the blazer frame.  You can see it angle down in back.

I do have the original brackets for the bumper, will that help. The outer bdackets will fit but the inner are way short. So what if i used the original outer (the angled ones) with my new inner straight brackets?  Or am i better to get the right bumper.

I am not in the know about the actual brackets.  I just know the pickup trucks differ from the Blazer and Suburban.  73-80 match your front and 81-87(91) is what you have.  Bumpers are the same within the years and brackets differ.  Personally if it were me and since you've brought it too entry level stock rims and painted bumper, get the correct one with brackets and call it a day...  My $.02
