Locking rear end options?

What are my options for locking my 14bolt? The truck is a 84 K2500 hot 350/4x4/auto trans. I've used Detriots in the past but I don't like the 3/4 revolution slop the have when you put it in gear and it bangs. How do I tell what I have now if it has a factory posi or some such?

Family is not an important thing. It's everything.

I knew it was normal but it just drove my crazy! The banging and jerking. Was thinking about an OX locker but they are expensive too

Dollar for dollar you won't beat a Detroit. Good luck breaking one. Ya they make noise but are simple and bullet proof.

ARB are nice. I agree with you but I don't have onboard air. Dont want the hassle or added expence of it. Guess I'll jus do a banging Detroit or cheap out and do a spool.

Stock GM G80 for a 14 Bolt. Limited Slip, no noise. However it is referred to as the Gov Bomb by most off road communities.
However, if it's for light off roading might be a viable option.

First question is it a 10.5" FF 14-bolt? Or is it a 9.5" semi float 14-bolt. A 1984 3/4ton with a 350 would have been delivered with the semi-float 9.5". The most likely way it would have the full float is if it was swapped in.
Your options will be different depending on which axle you have.

Guess I'll need to pop a hubcap and look at the axle end right? If I has bolts it's full if it's recessed it's semi?

I'll probably go with a TrueTrac when I get around to it.

Is the Tru track the little "clicker" ones that replace the spider gears? I've used them in jeeps before and never had any trouble with them with 36" tires. I had forgotten about them. They were cheap too comparatively
