I recently completed and auto to manual swap on my 86' K20.  The clutch pedal assembly came with the safety switch, but I have currently not wired it.  I would love to have this in place for I'm sure one day me or someone else will simply forget to push in the clutch before cranking the motor.. and crunch, or worse, hurt someone.  The safety switch has a yellow and purple wire coming off of it.  Is it possible to wire this into the auto steering column so I have an operating safety switch?

Mine was missing and bypassed due to a previous owners shenanigans so I replaced it for the same reasons you mentioned.
The switch mounts to the clutch bracket and the arm snaps into a hole in the clutch pedal.
Steering column type doesn't matter.

The factory used a special shoulder bolt that I was not able to find so I made an alternative.
I found a nylon spacer at Lowes in the hardware department in the drawers of specialty fasteners.
The inside and outside diameters were perfect I only needed to cut it to length.
I cut the spacer (bushing) a little long so I could tighten the lock nut and still allow the switch to rotate.

You will find a square hole on the clutch bracket for the carriage bolt.
As far as wiring all you need to do is move the Yellow and Purple wires from the column mounted park/neutral switch to the new clutch switch.

Here is link to a Switch They are fairly easy to find.

Sorry the last picture may be rotated 90 degrees CCW but you get the idea.

GM changed the switch and connector style in '85. The newer ones are available from the usual parts places. I got my switch from Amazon. Seems like it was in the $10-$15 range. My connector has been cut off and a house wire nut (red) was used to bypass the switch. I would like to do away with this state of the art repair and find an original connector.

I guess I should have read your question more carefully and not post when I'm tired.

Regardless, your clutch switch should have two terminals. One for the yellow wire and one for the purple wire.
It doesn't matter which wire goes to which terminal.
You will probably have to cut the current connecter and crimp a couple of new 1/4" insulated female terminals like I did in the picture above.
