New grille, where do I put the turn signals?
« on: April 09, 2015, 02:02:55 pm »
Alright fellas, Im stumped on this one.  I got one of the replacement grilles with no emblem in the center.  I went to mount it today and it doesnt have provisions for the turn signals?  I've seen other guys running this grille or even the billet grilles so how are yall mounting the turn signals.  This is on an 86 C10 with the quad lights.  Thanks for the help!

Here is the one I have...

Stick em behind it somehow
Or grab some of the tiny led trailer marker lights
I've got some on my trailer that are 3/4 diameter and very bright

I bought the same grille hoping I could make the original quad headlight turn signal lights work. I think it can be done with a little grinding with a dremmel tool and bonding the tabs from my old silverado grille on to the new grille. My plan B was to use an '81-'82 bumper with turn signals. I already have the bumper left over from an '82 project that was eventually parted out. I am not very creative when it comes to making things like this work so I will probably go the bumper route.

I have something in process.  I'll update when I either accomplish it or crash and burn.

I looked through the store and didnt see them.  Oh well, lesson learned.  We shall see how my "fix" works out.  It could be cool, it could be horrible.

I don't sell a lot.  If you don't see it online doesn't mean I can't get it. Just email me.

I got my grille like the one pictured at Rock Auto. It is for the single headlight Custom Deluxe models that have the park light/turn signal below the headlights. The factory single headlight ones did not have a provision in the grill for the park lights either. The reason I wanted one is to do away with the bowtie and sort of de-badge my truck. Just thought it would be a little different with the plans for a 403 Olds install.

Well, here is my solution.   It's not terribly bright in direct sunlight but it seems to work ok...

So I have a couple wiring questions.  The new headlights are H4 bulbs, meaning they have three prongs on the back.  The stock lower lights which I believe are the brights only have two so I simply had to bend down a prong on them.  The tops already had three so they just plugged in.  The issue is I have some power bleed going on somewhere.  When the low beams are on the highs still barely glow and vice versa.  What do I need to do to fix that?

Also on the LED turn signals, the LEDs aren't nearly as bright as I was expecting.  Since I did away with the stock plugs I just cut them off.  The LEDs have a positive and negative, twice for each headlight.  So for example on the drivers side I simply combined the two positive LED wires from each side of the halo into one butt connector end, and the two negative wires from each side of the halo into one connector end and then I connected the drivers side turn signal wire to the combined positive butt connector and the ground to the combined negative butt connector.  They blink correctly but just seem dim and I'm wondering if I should have wired them differently as well?

I know it may be confusing but any help is appreciated.
