So i have heard putting diesel oil in a gas engine can be beneficial. And im wondering is there any harm in doing so on a 1987 350?

I use Rotella "Diesel" oil in all of my engines. Even the Rotella has been "watered down" as far as zinc content, ect. in the pass 6-8 years...still better than many oils, but "not as good as it once was"...I think there is a song about that
