1977 C10 SWB Stepside - Two questions
« on: May 11, 2015, 06:14:53 pm »
I do not have another truck to compare to and couldn't find anything exact on the net. 1st question, do my leafs look right?  They seem odd to me.  Not like other leafs I've worked with, almost out of order. 2nd, do the ends of my frame rails look right?  Did it come from the factory like this or did somebody hack it up at some point?  I want to go to a factory rear bumper.  Thanks for any help guys/gals.

I wonder if someone removed some leafs for a softer ride then added a helper spring for when it does have stuff in back

i think that top one with the bracket should be on the bottom. so the bracket can hold the leaf pack together? also looks like its missing a few

The pictures I have seen show the top one on the bottom with a bolt through it.  So I wonder if these were just taken apart and not put together correctly.  Basically I just want a good stock set.  I am lowering it with a flip kit and don't want to go any lower then what the flip gives me.  If I can restore this set, great.  If not I'll need to know which ones to order.  As y'all can see I am a newb to this site.  I appreciate the responses.

I am in the process of doing a flip kit myself. When I saw your leaf packs something did not look right. My chassis is a 1985 swb light duty

Thanks my man. That is a night and day difference. It looks like my frame rails are the same, but mangled a bit. As for the leafs, I guess I'll be ordering a set.

I found the below picture on the internet this morning.  Double confirmed.  I want the rear cross member off your truck.  Mine looks like garbage and is dented.

I looked for a while to find my chassis. It is hard to get one in good shape nowadays. Why don't you disassemble your leafs and put them back together in the right order? Save some money

Funny you should say that. I was out in the garage doing just that.  I took one side out, put them in the right order. I should be good to go.  I'm going to replace the bushings, isolators and paint them up.  As for the frame ends, they will need some love.  My plan is a clean daily driver so perfection isn't required, but I would still like it as close as possible with the work done by me in the garage with an average tool set.

So I ordered a few things I needed to get going on the rear half and found out that Summit will no longer ship certain paints to Virginia...WTH.  I was going to paint the rear frame, axel leafs etc with the summit brand chassis shield.  Nope I guess I won't be.

I have had good luck with a wire cup mounted to an angle grinder to knock down all the factory coating and surface rust then I painted with 3 heavy coats of rustoleum gloss black. It is good stuff
