78 K10 4x4 trans issues
« on: May 26, 2015, 09:46:02 am »
Ok so I just bought this truck a couple of weeks ago for $400 bucks. Not gonna restore it to anything I just want to use it as a trail/mud truck. Anyway it sat for like 10 years so I did a tune up, replaced all vacuum lines replaced fuel pump, rebuilt the carb, and changed the oil. Fired right up and the engine is strong. It's the 350 btw.

So anyway I put it in gear with the tcase in neutral and d nothing happened other than making a bad grinding noise when I put it back into park. Then I put the tcase in 4 hi and it moves a little bit but take a lot of gas to get it going. After that I pulled it back in, heard the park grinding and shut the truck of. Right as I shut it off, the trans spewed about 2 quarts of fluid. (I thinks it's the TH350)

Any ideas what could be wrong? Is a rebuild something to look into? Do you think the torque converter is bad?

1st stop putting it in gear with the t case in neutral. whats happening is the trans is spinning at your idle speed with nothing to stop it. then once you put into park you trying to stop it with the park gear and this causes the grinding. the trans spewing fluid idk might be over full
