Amber Stuff?
« on: June 17, 2015, 12:18:03 pm »

This amber substance bellow has been found around certain screws and screw-holes on the interior. Small rubbery globs of it were found on the tips of the drip-rail screws too.

My guess is it is anti-rust protection and very important, but I can find very little info on it. If it is important, I'd like to know what it is.

What is it?
How/When/Where does it need to be applied?

I know we have people here that have experience even in the OEM production of these trucks. Anyone have info on this?

Thank you.

It's a silastic resin sealer applied to the screws to help prevent water intrusion.

In other words... if people learn by making mistakes, by now I should know just about everything!!!

Thx.

Can/should I use a silicone when reinstalling?

The local store has the usual Permatx RTV/silicone/rubber gasket-marker/adhesive/sealant stuff on their shelves.

I prefer windshield urethane when I re install screws like this.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Because it works good.
Silicone doesn't adhere to paint well.
