I turned a 77 GMC C-10 to a 3/4 ton 4WD by putting 73 3/4 ton drivetrain on it (front/rear axles, springs, and a NP205 case). The NP205 case did come in contact with the hump. What I did was put a 2X4 block in between the transfer case and the hump, used a floor jack to jam the tran case into where it would be (had the crossmember bolted to the transfer case), and the hump popped up enough to where it no longer was in contact with the case. Then removed the 2x4.
Then I just used a grinding wheel to cut out the hole for the shifter.
