paint question
« on: December 20, 2003, 09:48:00 pm »
I have an 85 K10 that needs a little body work and needs a paint job. It is currently rattle can primer. When i was doing research on the web i came accross the Durabak bedliner co. They sell a product similar to herculiner that is available in 19 colors. They have pics on their site of people who coated their entire trucks in the stuff. It sounds good because it wont scratch while off road. I was thinking of doing the bodywork and then coating my truck in black, gray, or red. What do you think. Does it sound stupid or could it be a good idea?
Here is the link if you want to see what i mean.

The only problem with the Durabak and Herculiner is they are air dry not a chemical reaction. This means that over a few months they will dull from UV rays. If you try to wash either of theses two products wuth a was mit you will leave half the wool on the mit behind on the surface. I speak from expreiance. They seem to work prety good for the money I have used them several times. Sem makes a spray on that is activated. It dosn't dull and the surface is closer to that of a drop in liner. you can also get a tintable version of the Sem, you mix a urathane paint with it of your color chioce. you will need a racker shutz gun and a compresor for the Sem.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

It will be a very permanent solution. I would not want to be the guy who decides he doe not like it or wants to change it. It would be heck to get it off and cleaned up for paint if you ever change your mind.
