This is my 1984 Chevy Stepside interior upgrade. The original instrumentation panel was removed, cleaned and repainted. All the dash lamps were replaced with pink LEDs that are actually a very deep purple color (not blue) as you can see in the pictures. If you look carefully at the daytime interior picture, you can see the purple color LED in the gauges. I have ended up removing  the instrument panel completely apart twice. The first time; I painted the interior behind the gauges with Rustolium Metallic Silver and installed the LED and still it wasn't bright enough. So the second time I took it apart and painted the backside of gauge plastic overlay cover and the inside interior again with Dutchboy Chrome paint and this is when the LED lights “popped out” after putting back together. If you want to upgrade to LED the poor man’s way, then LED lamps can be ordered from Amazon Partsam store and the paint locally. Take your time and carefully remove all the gauges and put aside in a safe box. I went as far as using an eraser at all the electrical contacts and then taping any areas that I don't want paint on. After painting and reinstalling the gauges and LED back together, you want to make sure that you test to see all LED lamps and gauges are working before putting your dash back together again. Keep in mind that the LED works in one direction and you'll need to rotate the lamps 90° in the socket if it doesn't light up.

This looks great.   Do the LED lights push into the stock retaining clips?
