cab swapping?
« on: April 01, 2004, 10:26:00 am »
hey.guy's. I have a 79 c10.The cab and bed are eaten up w/ cancerous rust.:\ Will an early 80's model scottsdale cab and bed mount to my frame. The body looks identical to myc10.Just wondering if this has been done and what problems I may encounter. Also the scottsdale has square head lights, the c10's are round. Will this be a problem? Thanks in advance.

Are you just swapping the cab with what is currently in it, or JUST the cab and putting your old stuff in it.  First, check to make sure you are legal before you start.  It isn't legal to swap VIN's.  Second the '81-up cab will swap you just need to use the frame specific cab mount bushings.

If you are swapping interiors, the will be some issues to address.  The 73-80 front clip will bolt to the '81-up cab with no problems.  If you were swapping clips from a 73-80 to an '81-up there would be some changes to be made.

Putting a 73-80 clip on an 81-up requires no changes.  Putting an 81-up on a 73-80 is where the changes occur.

BTW, did you see the replies to you post on these questions?  The were answered there also:  pub158.ezboard.com/f7387c...=167.topic

What is the front clip? The only body work I've done is changing the fenders and hood ,and also a little rust repair to my door, which has all been done to the 79 c10 I have owned for 2 1/2 months. So I'm not as educated as you guys yet.Any help is appreciated.
                         Thanks,

Reason I wrote if there were any mods to the front clip is that I have an 1980 c10 shortbed step side. and I just got a 1983 c20 which I want to take the 83 front clip and put it on my 80 stepside. and just wanted to know if everything was going to fit I know I will have to mod the cowl

Front clip.  EVERYTHING from the front doors forward.  Fenders, inner fenders, core support, hood, etc...
