Power Steering Leak
« on: July 23, 2015, 08:37:23 pm »
I replaced my power steering pump two years ago and all has been well. Until this last weekend when I noticed it had started leaking. I would rather not replace it again so I want to stop the leak if at all possible. Lucas makes a product that they say will stop the leak .As anyone tried this and will it hurt the pump?

Thanks,

Stuff like that is simply a stop gap measure. It may stop the leak and it may stop any noises but it could also do more damage and end up causing you to replace it anyways.

Very true, this stuff is not a permanent fix and is mainly just a bandage but the question is how long will the bandage stay on before it falls off?

Back when I couldn't rub 2 nickles together I had a leaky pitman seal, then the power steering pump started to leak, then the high pressure hose went, I chucked it all and put a manual box on it.  Several less things to go wrong...

Had the pitman seal start leaking on mine earlier this year. Everyone I talked to suggested that I replace the entire unit, but I just couldn't see spending the money or the time/labor in doing that big of a job for a simple seal leak.  I opted to replace the seal (with the unit still on the truck, also against some of the things I read), and so far, so good.
