A GREAT weekend at the track!
« on: July 29, 2015, 10:12:27 pm »
This past Sunday was the Olds Powered Nationals @ Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. We usually go on Friday & set up for the weekend & run the regular race program on Saturday & then the all Olds deal on Sunday.
I haven't had much time & hadn't touched the truck or raced it since the same race last year (besides adding/removing anti-freeze for the winter & changing the oil in the spring)
The wife ran the Stock Class (DOT tires & Mufflers) on Saturday. I believe there were around 60 vehicles in the class (6 rounds) & took Runner-up...went four 12.37's in a row!

The next day @ the Olds event, they added this year a "Ladies Only" Class, which I assume was to get some wives to drive hubby's car for some fun...Well, a few of the females were sharp & had lasted quite a number of rounds on Saturday night so we knew it wasn't going to be a walk in the park. She did end up taking first in that Class but had some tight races...
that was another 4 rounds.

Not bad for year old sparkplugs & all. Now if I could only get the bog out of that Q-jet ;)
Thanks to Motolenz for the great starting line photo

Tighten the screw on the secondaries flap 1/2 turn.  My $.02  I ran a quadrajet on my 69 Chevelle hobbystock.  They potentially run way better than anything I tried.

Running 12.37  4 times in a row is incredible.
Obviously your wife is a great driver and the truck is dialed in.
Congratulations on a big win.

Zieg, You missed my "wink" smiley...I was just having fun. Seems like everytime the word Quadrajet comes up, the next sentence has the word "bog" in it.

I spent a bunch of time (& rear tires) testing, fiddling, using a stop watch...drilling with a pin vice a few thousandths at a time until I got it to a point where it is very responsive on a whack to the floor from just above idle.

Ten of her 13 passes last weekend were 1.61 60' times, the other few were 1.62 & 3. It's done high 1.50's quite often. I've got the truck to leave the line well for a street truck running times much faster in the first 1/8 than the end result is, it simply doesn't have enough horsepower to push the "square box" through the second half of the track like it should. yep I did miss it.  These are amazing carbs set up right.  I remember watching the guy tune mine on my circle track stock car.  He had all the drill bits and tricks to get it just right.  For a junkyard motor I was 2nd in points the year I was serious about running every night.  Sure ran good and consistent every night.

I know on an all stock original truck I would love to have someone tune a q-jet properly. I love my TBI tho on my daily driver.
