Just bought my first truck ever! She's a 1977 c10 Custom Deluxe longbed. It is my dream to restore her but for now it's just a work truck and something to tinker with. Right off the bat I need to replace the Valve cover seals and possibly rebuild it he carb. The radiator is giving me a few issues as well but she's still loud and proud when driving around town.

The last of them. Thought I would show the few rust spots it does have. They all seem to be all along the passenger side from front to rear, except for the drivers floor board which is pretty well rusted out. I am in Central NC and have been looking for a Chevy Truck for some time now and when I saw this baby pop up I couldn't refuse. She's a little rough in some places but all in all I think its worth every penny.

Ok so I drove her around for about an hour today and the temp gauge blew off the charts. She didn't feel any different when driving and nothing was smoking but when I stopped and popped the hood I had a massive amount of radiator overflow from the tank and the cap directly on the radiator and the valve cover seals were leaking a bit. Other than replacing the seals any ideas on how to go about fixing the radiator overflow issue? Do I just need to drain it and add new coolant? Or does this seem like something more serious?

was it coming out like boiling out? or was there just a bunch of coolant there?
the radiator cap could be bad.

It was boiling out of both the cap and the overflow tank.

the cap itself could be bad allowing the water to boil. water normally boils at 212° this is about our normal operating temp. the point of the rad cap is to increase the psi of the water for every psi the boiling point goes up 2-3° so a 15 psi cap like we have will raise the boiling point to 242° then antifreeze also plays a roll but its not important right now
