Engine capacities for 1976 350 4bbl
« on: October 12, 2015, 05:45:32 pm »
I'm wanting to do a coolant system flush and oil change on my 76 c10, 350 4bbl. Need to know the fluid capacities for this engine. Thanks

I just did coolant.  If you open up the !@#$ on the radiator and let it drain out until nothing is left, it will take about 6 quarts to refill it, plus whatever you need in the side bottle, which is about another quart if it is dry.  I get the 50/50 premix, because I would have to buy distilled water anyway.  Just easier.  So you need two one-gallon bottles.  That's with the stock radiator and hoses.

Oil depends on the oil pan.  I have the four-quart pan, which makes an oil change with filter about five quarts.  I just use the ACDelco PF1218 filter.  Oil spec is 10W30.  You should use an oil with enough ZDDP in it.  Some modern oils have much less than they used to.  You can also add ZDDP (amazon: ZDDPPlus -- use half a bottle per change).  Don't switch to synthetic oil on an old engine unless you want to find all your oil leaks.  Synth will find them all for you.

Another thing you might want to do on an original or older engine is add one bottle of ATP AT-205 (also at amazon).  The best thing for restoring old, hardened rubber seals.  Just add it to the oil and leave it in there for one whole oil change.  No need to repeat every oil change.  Works in the tranny, too, and half a bottle in the P/S.  DO NOT USE IN BRAKE SYSTEM.

You probably have a four-quart pan.  You can buy five quarts, or, to be safe, you can get 7 or 8 and have oil ahead for next time.
