Is it worth it?
« on: December 13, 2004, 12:39:00 am »
This guy near me has an 87 C10 thats real rusty. Also 3 different colors. What needs to be replaced is the rocker, cab corner both doors, and the wheel wells on the bed. It has a 350 that supposedly runs good(havent heard it or driven it yet) with a 4wd trans, but the truck is 2wd. The interior is pretty messed up, needs a completely new bench. Its a short bed I think, not positive though. How can I tell? I looked at the parts on this site, and it wouldnt be TOO expensive to buy the replacements, save the doors. I'm up to trying to weld in new peices. I'm not wanting a show truck, just a work/hauler that looks nice from 10 ft. I hate bondo. He's asking $500. I dont really have $500 to spend, I'm going to offer him $350 cash, see if he takes it. Is it worth the work, or am I just going to do the work and still end up with a POS that wont ever sell for more than $500?

Thanks,
-Dan

i own an 87 swb 2wd. if it dont have any rust holes it would definitely be a good deal. even if it does it can be fixed. i would swap out the 4wd tranny and put a TH350 2wd tranny in it though. remember 87 is the last year of this bodystyle and the first year for TBI. a lot of people would like to have this year and nowadays this bodystyle is sought after. but if you have the money and skills which you probably do i would get it and replace the parts that are needed and sand it down and paint it. sounds like it would be a good project truck. if you want it get it if not then don't. another good thing is which you probably already know is that parts are cheap and common for these trucks. this website has pretty good prices too. but if you replace the body parts and get it repainted and do good bodywork it shouldn't be a POS.

It's got at least 6-7 HOLES in it. I'm just kinda worried about the underbody. The brake lines and everything else that could be rusted out. I'll check it out more tomorrow. I know the exhaust is completely rusted out. Hope the brake/fuel lines are intact.:\

brake and fuel lines can be replaced. rust holes can be filled in but you don't like bondo. if you're looking for a good project truck and can spare a little money get it. if not don't worry about it. another 73-87 will pop up if you look around and keep an eye out. lotopp 79 may be right it may turn into a headache.
