Ever get injured?
« on: October 25, 2015, 10:09:27 pm »
On my "door handle removal" post i mentioned the multitude of new parts i was installing. Well, i did the front shocks fine. Then on the rear shocks, first one, lower bolt, had to use a sledge hammer to hit the socket wrench handle to loosen large nut.  Then "Ka-pow", i hit my left pinky.  It turned instantly numb, i thought...no not another black nail.  But it was much worse than that. It was a pinch cut. Opened it up bad, and tip of bone broke.  Had wife take me to the ER.  Nothing but discomfort, discouragement and depression.  Got some stiches and a splint. The healing process has started.   Anyone else ever sustain a nasty little injury like that from their chevy? Perhaps in the workshop?

12-bolt axle I was rebuilding slipped off the jackstands it was sitting on.  Luckily my pinky cushioned the drop to the floor.  Tip of the finger turned colours of purple not usually known to skin, and was sore and numb for about a month.

1950's single speed on/off 1/2in electric drill, drilling holes in the frame for relocation of trans mount for new trans. Drill got just a bit sideways, that giant drill bit cut into the side of the hole and stopped, that 70 lb drill kept spinning and took me with it, pull me and my arm 180 degrees the opposite way I was facing originally. Thought it ripped my arm out of the socket, luckily it didn't, shoulder was sore for 2 days after. I have a lot more respect for that old drill now haha.

It hurts me knowing my 81 step side has been sitting for 5 years with a blown motor.
Its painful knowing I can no longer buy 16.5" tires for my aluminum slotted rims.
As far as injuries, lucky its just been the normal skinned nuckles.

It's unrelated to working on the truck but this was a close call too. One time I was using a skill saw, was holding the wood with one hand, saw with the other, (see where this is going?) Got a little to close with the saw and sliced my right hand ring finger just above the top knuckle bend, got thru the skin but not the tendon or muscle, which I could see tho, that fast spinning blade cuts quick and at first I didn't feel it, bout 10 min later I did lol. Had to get a few stitches. Still got the whole finger tho, looks like I have 2 knuckles right next to each other tho lol. And the local pain killers in my finger wore off before the stitches went in so I felt every single stitch with that needle.

When I was younger (early 20s) and my 2nd truck was my 86 gmc I was under it working without safety glasses I had rust fall in my eye. Thought I got it out then a day or two later it was still bothering me looked in the mirror and saw that in my eye. Went to the er they looked at it and said I have a rust ring and there's nothing they can do since 24 hrs past and they eye has grown a layer over the rust. They said I have to go to a E.N.T. to get it drilled out. I couple days later it disappear all by itself.

My dad was out working on the nursery as a mechanic towards the end of his career due to his Parkinson. He was up on the radiator support and he slipped his knee went into the alternator fan

Rebuilding the front Axel.. Just got done painting it an started the install. Got the driver's side u-bolt barely in the top metal spring pad and I stopped for a second to figure out how on the world o was going to get it in...apparently I think with my mouth open bc the bolt popped out and broke out my right front tooth. Now it's fake!! What fun we have.

Ouch!  Thats a bad one.  When i was under my truck doing the front shocks, looking up i realized my large cresent wrench was just loosley on the bolt still hanging there. I moved real fast out of the way! Could have busted nose or tooth easily! Whew!
