Truck stuck in neutral

It doesn't move with the transmission in park so I'm guessing it's the transmission too.   I hope it's not the converter. Just put in a new 2500 stall.

well got some bad news. even if its something in the trans the converter is still contaminated and should be replaced.

Agreed, if you want any kind of warranty on new trans, you need new tc

That being said, I have seen new tc's go bad almost immediatly- something that could mean warranty replacement

i was thinking the same thing. if you still have a warranty on that tc you might be able to get a replacement

How can you tell if it is the TC?  I have my old one still so I could put that one back in but that is a lot of work just for a test.

im not sure if you can pin point if its the tc or trans. i dont see the harm in putting your old one back in since it should be scrapped anyway due to it being contaminated. i dont know if you will see any difference in if the trans works or not

I guess we should ask why the TC was changed in the first place. if you just wanted a higher stall, and the original was fine, then popping it back in may show the new TC is at fault if the truck moves-which means check warranty on TC

 a transmission rebuild should really be considered even if it ends up being the TC, so many fine particles going through the tranny is not good

the odds of an auto just failing with no warning of slipping or anything tend to be pretty slim, although now that I say that; it isn't really all that uncommon either, it is just less likely

ive heard of tcs going bad shortly after install. and most of refurbished but the problem is with that afaik its only a visual inspection of the internal parts and if it looks bad they will replace it

Well it is not the transfer case.  I am going to drain the fluid from the transmission and see if there is any metal in it and start from there.  I put in a new 2500 stall because I rebuilt a 350 and the power curve is in a higher RPM range then stock.  I will have the trans rebuilt over winter and start again in spring....I only have about 10 miles on the new engine and wanted to get some miles on it before the snow flies...bummer

yeah sounds like the stall is the problem.
