Cab change on 78 GMC k25
« on: March 21, 2005, 09:38:00 pm »
In january i finally decided to buy my own project truck to work on in my spare time, and to have some fun with since i just love these old beasts.  After looking i found this truck and bought it for 500 bucks. Only body problems i could see was the cab was completely shot, not fixable, and the bottom of the bed was gone.  Im planning on selling the old bedsides and going to a junkyard and finding another in better condition using the proceeds from the bedside sales.  But back to the cab, he had another one sitting in his yard that he needed to get rid of, doesnt look too bad except for the usual rockers, cab corners and cab supports which can be fixed.  Main problem is that it appears to be an 80's vintage cab since it has the newer style fuse block, and it was originally equipped for an auto tranny (my chassis has the SM465 manual), and was equipped for A/C which the old cab did not have.  It was included, so i took it.  What mods will have to be done to make this cab compatible with the rest, if it will fit at all?

changing the cab to be a manual set up is easy. you switch the brake and clutch assembly from the old cab, cut a hole for the clutch rod, switch the belly pan for your shifter, you canr change the column out if you want but not nessary. being ac ready shouldnt effect anything. the wiring should hook up right, since there is only 2 plugs
