Windsheild removal
« on: December 22, 2015, 04:39:48 PM »
so quick question/clarification- on a 1985 GMC to remove the front glass-do you remove the chrome piece then the rubber? I think it was being called a lock strip.

once that is removed it should be pretty easy to roll the glass to the outside right? then the gasket can be taken out(I wish to reuse)

I'm pretty use to the glass were you use a rope and pull the seal through(with glass pre-installed)

Yes, remove the chrome lock strip, then you will have to break the seal free from the body. I pulled the windshield out of a truck about a month or so ago, I put a flat blade screw driver between the seal and body and just ran it along the edge all the way around. Than you have to carefully tap on the glass with an open palm hand or the bottom of your hand, the area under your pinky finger if you had a closed fist. It's a gentle whacking, the windshield will start to push out of the channel and once you get it 3/4's the way out, it just popped out and we set it on the grass outside face face down, so it curves up towards the sky.

Perfect thanks. Found a small rust spot in rear window lip. Perfect time to check up front.

if you spray soapy water around the seal it will help it pop out and/or in. at work I also use Vaseline to put windshields back in.
