Emergency Brake light
« on: January 07, 2016, 07:56:07 am »
I am working on a restoration of my 1987 Chevy R10 LWB. Currently, the bed is off with the body guy. My emergency brake light is on, even though the brake is NOT engaged. I'm hoping you guys have an easy troubleshooting solution to this. I'm also hoping having the bed off would simplify getting to the problem and fixing it. The gauge cluster is not original, as I had to pick one up on E-Bay used. The brake light was coming on with the old cluster too. Thanks for any advise I get.

On the top of the parking brake assembly there is a switch that makes the circuit.  It is hard to see looking from underneath but easy with the cluster off...  Also the proportioning valve could be tripped if the brake line was ever leaking ..

Thank you. I will check both areas and see what happens. Quick question though. My son rebuilt the front end, including calipers, brakes, etc. Could the bleeding of the brake lines have triggered this "leak". And if that is the problem, how would I go about resetting it?

If only the front brakes were bled that might have been the issue all along.  Try bleeding the back brakes to center the proportioning valve in which will turn the light off.
