Dash board and interior electrical
«

My dad recently re wired wires of starter and some bare wires on my truck and now my dash board is going crazy, before it worked properly the lights worked on dash and so did windshield wipers, they actually never shut off and now nothing is working properly. The windshield wipers do not work at all and when I move the switch my temp gauge and voltage gauge move around and dash lights are backwards and dim. Also now my heat controls do not work I moved it saturday night and it blew and now they don't work at all. Really have no clue as to what is going on here. Any help would be apreciated. Thank you

You're describing poor grounds. Make sure the battery negative-to-engine and right rear cylinder head-to-firewall ground cables weren't inadvertently disconnected and that the connections are clean and tight. Check the ground connections to cab sheetmetal on the left kick panel above the park brake pedal. You should also verify good ground connections from battery negative-to-radiator support and battery negative-to-right frame rail.

I am in the process of waiting on parts to replace the Parking brake cable and currently have undone all of the wires on the pedal assembly, do you think that could have something to do with it?

If you disconnected a bevy of black wires that were attached to bare metal, then yes, that is likely the cause.

A test tonight revealed that disconnecting the wires on the parking brake cable is why the dash lights and windshield wipers are not working. Talked to a freind and pointed out a few other things about grounds and something's that need to be changed so hopefully changing those will be the solution to the heater issue as well.

So my dad grounded the lower metal dash to the parking brake due to it being disconnected from cab and the dash lights went on for a few seconds and then off and now they don't work at all, the fuse is till good and the windshied wipers work now and heat still doesn't.

When I move the high and low setting on the heater you can hear the relay clicking. Does that mean it could be the blower motor?

Loose wire on heater, now works and windshield wiper still work. No power to fuse block for the dash lights, how do the wires come off of the back of the fuse block in the engine bay?

The 5-amp instrument lamps fuse is in series with the 20-amp tail lamps fuse. Battery power enters the cab where it connects to the fuse box and the 20-amp tail lamps fuse. From there, power goes to the headlamp switch, through the dash lamp rheostat, then back to the 5-amp instrument lamps fuse before continuing onto the cluster.
