76 C-30 help
« on: June 20, 2005, 08:25:00 pm »
Ok, this is a long term project, so Im gathering parts and information.

Will a 89-91 GMC front clip go on?

How can I tell if it is a pick-up or a cab & chassis?

If it is a cab & chassis, will a dually bed fit?

What years wheels will fit?  Later years look better.

Im looking to do a modest drop, front clip conversion, and use it like a truck.  Its free so I can afford to spend some time and money.

Here is a detailed explanation of swapping front clips. coloradok5.com/grilleswap.shtml
As for the question about the cab and chassis I think all that means is you didn't get a bed when you bought the truck. You will have to measure the wheelbase and see if it's the same as a longbed pickup. short wheel base is 117.5" long wheel base 131.5" The wheel base is printed on the service parts label inside the glove box. If it's not there breakout the tape measure and measure center of front wheel to center of back wheel
Any bed will fit you just have to make sure the fuel door or cap is on the same side as your truck or in some cases both sides. The earlier beds had gas caps and later beds had the doors. It's a matter of personal opinion as to which one to use.

A C30 will automatically be a long wheel base.  They didn't make short wheel bases in anything above 1/2T.

As long as the front clip is from a 88-91 Blazer or Suburban you will be fine.

So an 88-91 pick-up clip will not work?  What years pick-ups will work?

No what they mean is a 88-91 suburban front clip will work, but there is minor fabrication to do in order to get it to work. Also any front clip from a 81-87 pick up or a 88-91 one ton truck will work with the same minor fabrication.

My K30s wheel base is about 6" longer than my K20. As far as the cab and chassis question, the dullie trucks have the same width rear axle housing as a pickup the cab and chassis trucks had a narower housing. If your backing plates are so tight to the springs that you almost can't bleed the brakes then its a cab and chassis.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs
