78' C-10 350
« on: January 29, 2016, 09:43:57 am »
Here she is, i picked her up with 91,000 original miles (I am the second owner) and I plan on keeping her original. An uncountable amount of hours was put in on paint restoration (cheaper method than a new paint job) the paint looks like brand new. My father and I also did a few other things to clean up the look of the truck. Shines like new!

Nice.  Those 1978 dark red tones are gorgeous colors.  Looks like 1978 Red Metallic and Mahogany inside the stainless trim...  Am I close?

The only one that's close to being as sweet as that 70's metallic red is the 1995 CK GMT400 GMC Dark Garnet Red Metallic.  I thought about using the 1995 GMC dark garnet red with 2009 Corvette Cyber Gray 2 tone on my 1976.  I may yet do it on another project.

Welcome from California. The truck is beautiful! The color is vivid and bright! I'm very jealous.

Welcome from Northeastern AZ! That's a gorgeous truck! That color looks great! I wish my truck was still nice and shiny like that! My original paint is starting to peel off in several places.  :(

How bad is the paint peeling? When i originally bought the truck i thought i would need to do an entire new paint job but i saved a ton of money by doing a paint restoration instead. The paint restoration costed $200 max, including buying the buffer and pads. Here are a few pictures. before, one half of the hood done the other half not, and after.

Fine job on the paint.
Are some trim rings for those rally's in the future?

Yup. They're sitting in the basement waiting to be polished up, a few more months and they'll be on there!

That looks great! My truck is blue and white factory two-tone. I know the upper blue has been repainted at some point, but not very well. I have spots on the roof, hood, and cowl where it looks like it was painted with a clear coat that's starting to peel. In other places like the cab seam and around the windows the blue is peeling off entirely showing the black primer underneath. Then on the middle white paint, there's several areas mainly on the driver's side of the bed where it's peeling off showing the black primer. Then the inside of the bed is peeling, but it's a truck and still gets used for what it was designed for so that doesn't bother me. But it would be nice to try to salvage what paint is left before it gets any worse! I'm pretty sure that the white is the original paint. I know for sure that most of the lower blue underneath the vinyl trim has been repainted with a rattle can, but not by me!

Very nice truck! Some wider low profile tires might look nice on it when you put the rally rings on.

The original owners drove the truck to Florida every winter from when they bought it. Now the truck is kept in the garage throughout the winter, there are a few rust spots around the truck, but nothing terrible.
