Delco Radio Speaker/Power Pinout
« on: January 29, 2016, 04:48:00 pm »
I have been unable to find connectors or more importantly the pinout for the Delco AM radio pictured below.
I don't really need connectors I have no problem slinging solder.

Thanks for looking.

77 and older GM cars have those plug ins.  Ebay has them as well.

Thanks,
All I have been able to find on Ebay etc. are the rectangular blue, white, and black connectors which I am familiar with.
What I really need is the pinout for this radio.

this is a picture of the back of a AM 8-track stereo...  Rotate the plugs on the standard AM and you get the gist of it.

The pin-out for the radio will be in the factory wiring diagrams.  Look in my signature...

Thanks I hoped you would chime in.
I did download your service manual a couple of weeks ago.
I must have missed what I am looking for.

I'll read again.

Thank you!

Thanks that picture solves the power, ground, and backlight part.

You need the wiring manual.  It's separate from the service manual.  If you snag em from my Mediafire bucket I have sub-folders for each year.
There are actually 3 or 4 manuals to make a set depending on the year.  1 Service, 2 Unit-Repair, 3 Wiring, and 4 Emissions/Driveability manuals.

The radio wiring will be toward the end of the wiring manual in the optional equipment sub-harness diagrams not on the base model overview wiring pages.

The actual connector family is Delphi Pak-Con.  Not sure if it's Pak Con I, II or, III.  Delphi still sells the terminals so you can buy em from Del-City etc but not these radio connector shells.  You can evilbay all of the 70's radio connectors with pigtails.

I have the wiring manual as well.
I see the three pin power connector but not the speaker connectors.

I don't want to waste your time. I'll look further and figure it out. I'm sure it is all there.
If all else fails I can take the chassis apart and use the schematics in your radio service manual.

Thanks for sharing!

EDIT:
I am not sure if the Delco radio I have came from a 1975 truck.
It may well have come form an older GM vehicle?
Additionally, a previous owner cut the original radio wiring, dash, IP trim, and installed a single DIN no name Chinese POS radio.  >:(
I have a new IP trim panel and I am making a steel patch panel to fill the DIN hack job and allow me to install a period correct Delco two shaft radio.
