1991 v1500 radio antenna
«

I there,
My burbans radio when I first got it only received one station, after I put a new windshield in it I receive about 4 but most are still staticy. I figure my factory radio is junk. I remember while I had my front end off there was a cable just sitting under my evaporator box (on the exterior) that was a female ended radio cable. What is that for if the antenna is in the windshield? Does anyone have good links for how to change a '89-'91 radio so single or double din?
Thanks

I took it to a shop to have the windshield installed and when I picked it up the radio was able to pick up more stations I probably pick up 8 but they are very poor quality. Before I got the windshield I could only get 1 period.

take the wire that is exposed, and move it around away from windshield w/radio on that u can here it. If radio does anything different at all, it is not hooked into windsheld.

Any chance the exposed wire by my passenger fender AND the windshield are both connected to radio? I'd definitely would say my windshield is since it got better when I got a new winshield

Pretty unlikely. My guess is that was connected to a external antenna the old fender may have had. If u can't look under dash an see connection, u may have to slide radio out. Easier then not, contact the fella that installed glass and ask him what he did. Maybe see where wire entered firewall, reach up and hand trace it. Maybe slip your glove box out for an easier look.

Lol well now idk. When I unplug my windshield the radio doesn't change but if my hand is near the wire on the windshield the radio goes staticcy. If I touch the wire that is laying over the evap box under hood the radio gets clearer.
What the crap is going on???

Are u unplugging the the antenna wire off the radio itself? I think the outside wire is hooked up, an your just close enough to windshield, that it just jumping thru the air grabbing what it can. To know 4 sure, u need to chase the wire from radio to where its hooked up, or as I suspect, goes thru the firewall.

Could be the opposite of what I suspect. The windshield hook up can become brittle .......bottom line is, u need to chase the wire.

The wire goes through the wirewall near my fuel pump relay. I'll try and get some pics. But I guess I'm going to have to pull the radio out and see. And I was unplugging the wire on the windshield it just snaps onto a button on the glass.

do you have a antenna on the fender or windshield? you will see two vertical lines that run up the center of the windshield to the top then both split and go vertical.
it almost sounds like the PO swapped the fender without a antenna or with and just didnt hook it up. the provision for the windshield as far i know is always there but theres a button style connection that goes from the provision to the windshield.

Yes the winshield has an antenna but I believe the wire that's on the windshield is not connected to the radio and instead the wire that would have went to a fender antenna is the one connected. I have to take my dash apart to be sure. But I have a lot of exams coming up and I'm far behind because of a severe back injury.

if you look center of the dash pad do you see a rubber boot attached to the bottom of the windshield?

Yes, as I have stated in earlier post I have unplugged it and no change, however when I grab the cable under the hood my radio gets louder
