`79 CHEVROLET DOOR LOCKS
« on: July 10, 2005, 05:17:00 pm »
Help!, how do you lock the doors of a 1979 chevrolet scottsdale? there is only a handle and push in type button to open the door. Cannot see any key socket or anywhere to lock the door from the outside? help please!

Then your locks were shaved by a previous owner.  The door lock cylinder is supposed to be below the door handle, just under the horizontal body line.

had a look inside and yeah the door locks are motor driven! new to old trucks and didnt realise keyless entry was around in 79! checked the inside of the doors and lock cylinders have never been fitted or evidence of being filled. how exactly did it work? Was there an alternative way to open or lock if the motors failed? would be easy to lock yourself out accidently if not!: eek

The door locks were shaved AFTER someone purchased it.  This was not an option on the truck, it was customization by a future owner.  How to make it work depends on how they hooked it up.

I say shave the door handles and put automatic door poppers in nad you`ll eliminate the whole doop handle/lock setup and with a touch of a button you can open the doors.

I shaved my locks, but decided to keep the handles.  I will have a remote to lock/unlock the doors.
