Yup, for the most part the car shows are interesting to watch. Especially when they are working on something you like, like a classic muscle car or even a squarebody.

Hey, is "sreet outlaws" totally fake?

Kinda sorta. I've street raced several of them back in the 90's, so they do race on the street. But the show adds a lot of made up drama, and of course they won't show how the races are really set up. But the editors like to mess with everyone, so they don't even know how the shows will turn out. When they raced LMR, there were 8 races and the street outlaws won only 2, but they only show the 2 that the Okie's won.

Look up the Chief and Shawn show podcast, they do talk about some of the BS the tv crew puts them through. Lots of edited interviews, and the editors selecting scenes that make people look like idiots. The best way to look at it is a car guy show being controlled by people who's only automotive education is from watching the fast and the furious and bikers boys. From what I understand, Goatee Bo from the first season is gone because he refused (then threatened to kill the producer) after he was asked to make a comment about "spraying too soon." Almost all car shows have the potential to be decent, but what would interest car guys would be boring to the non car guys that make up most of the viewers.

Thats right, i could watch a classic rest show with one mechaic in a shop, explaining step by step (doing things right of course) for hours of enjoyment if it were a classic american truck or car. But not if it were a datsun or bmw or anything above the mid 80's. Yup, the drama gets all the regular folks. Save the drama for your mama. That was the saying at the academy.

I'm kinda the same way although I don't care about the year as much anymore. I'm a diesel guy and the best automotive diesel to ever hit the market didn't hit the market until 89. Also, if you have messed with early 70's rwd rice, you don't think of them the same as a fwd junker.

***Update***

Talked to the Producer today, a good friend of mine, and he says both cab corners have been replaced and the new Turbo 400 Short Shaft  (built by Dana Sniff out in SoCal) and the Dodge NP203 Transfercase are both installed!

Next up they're going to get the new drivelines fabricated since the old drivelines will be different lengths.  The stock transmission and transfercase were the 700R4 mated to a NP208.

I was hoping to get my truck back in time for our big Detail Fest show but no problemo if I don't have it.  I'm shooting our TV show on Friday befor the show and the playing host all weekend.

I'll share some pictures after the dust settles.

Keep it civil here.  I removed one post already.  The others I am looking at.  Report anything that gets out of line.  Mike, on behalf of the forum I apologize.

Why would you apologize? Opinions are a part of life, and everyone has one. I didn't see anything that was inappropriate or an attack.

Mike, why would you let them put a 203 in your truck? I could see a 203 range box with a 205 behind it, but my years of off roading taught me that the range box was the only good part of a 203. I've been out of the 4x4 thing for a while, maybe they have come up with some decent upgrades for them?

Here's some pictures of the transfercase installed....

The transfercase is actually a rebuilt Dodge NP205

Transmission is installed too.  It's a Chevy Turbo 400 built by Dana Sniff of Dana Sniff Transmissions.

My mistake... it's a Dodge NP205 not a 203.

I bought it from a guy off TrucksGoneWild.com

That's good. The 205 is about the strongest thing you can find without going to aftermarket t-cases.

Exactly.  This why I purchased it and went from a mated system to a divorced system.  This is my retirement toy and I like to build em right the first time so I don't have to do it a second time.

Sometime this summer I'll either rebuild a 454 I already own or purchase a big block Chevy already built and ready to go.  I usually get about 10 years out of my engine before they're due for rebuild and I don't mind this type of maintenance.

After the drivetrain is finished it's getting a little bit more lift so I can fit 44" Boggers under it.  Then a fresh paint job and after that I'll stick a fork in it and call it done.  This is just my pavement pounder.  I live about 3 miles from work so I don't really care about gas mileage or tire wear.

I will take her to some of Matt Steele's events but due to the sand element in the mud I won't get her dirty.  In fact... give her a fresh coat of wax before going.

I've never been a fan of the divorced t-cases, although some people love them. But, I usually play with flexy crawlers rather than mud trucks. Either way, it should be tough as heck.

Go LS, you won't regret it. Just last weekend a friend finished his 6.0 build for his mud toy, an LQ4 rebuilt with 13.8-1 compression on e85 with ls3 heads. Performance wise, it blows his old 496 out of the water. The 496 wasn't a slouch, it was built to run c16. We took it for a spin around town, almost literally. It would fry the 53" boggers anywhere in any gear.

How much lift are you running? Just a little trimming let 49" IROK's clear with a 4" lift on my old trail beater. It was an old military k30. Of course, it wasn't a pretty truck like yours.
