tranny swap

anyone ever do a tranny swap before? i bought a 4 speed sm 465 to replace the one i have in my truck now it don't shift right and it was only 40 bucks so i said why not add it to the replace list? it came from a 454 dually rwd with 4.10 gears. my betty is a 79 3/4 350 rwd with 4.10 gears i think

the trany came out of a 85 or 86

It sounds like you're replacing a 465 with a 465. If yes, just unbolt the old and bolt in the new. They should be perfectly identical.
 This probably shouldn't need to be said, but please use a floor jack or a tranny jack. I learned the hard way that it is heavy and hard to lift off of your chest and into place.

The only time there might be a problem is early vs late model splines on 4x4 boxes...  2wd should bolt right in.

Not a question of difficulty. Decent used transmissions are just cheaper than rebuilding one.
