Time for tires - help with different size question

Not exactly sure what width my rims are... maybe 7" or 8"?  (see pic).

Anyway, I currently have 235/75-15s.  Was thinking about moving up to 265/70-15s.  They should fit, right?

Discount tire has some good deals on Ebay, free shipping.  I can get the mounted locally for about $65.  Looking at Coopers or maybe General.

I'd do some measuring first.....standard should be 225's. What you have, to what you want to go, is around 1" in both directions. HxW...Take inside measurement's w/the wheel cut hard in both direction's.....I'm guessing a lite touch on a hard steer, w/the standard wheel's, using the 265's.

Went out and cut the wheels in both directions and it sure looked like there was plenty clearance, but maybe I'll run it by the tire shop and see what they have to say. 

Worst case, I replace with same 235/75-15 and save more money.

Are you set on the 265/70/15 tires because of the height, width, etc?
255/70/15 tires are slightly shorter/narrower and a safer bet, .5" shorter and narrower.
If I were you, I would look into them. Discount Tire seems to have a good selection of them.

Actually I am not really set on any size - just don't want smaller or thinner.  Wider and taller would be good, but it's a 3rd vehicle, so $aving money is better.

If I were you, I would look into them. Discount Tire seems to have a good selection of them.

The tire size actually makes them about 1.75 in shorter and about 1.75 in narrower. tread width mm/aspect ratio%/rim size. convert tread width from metric to standard (1"=25.4mm) to get your tire width, multiply tread width by your aspect ratio as a percentage to get your sidewall height, multiply by 2 and add rim size, that gives you the overall diameter of your tire.

I'm sorry, but your math is off somewhere.
I'm assuming you are talking about the 235 vs 265? Though my post was about the 255vs 265.

On the 235/75/15 vs 265/70/15, the 265 is 19mm/0.75" taller, as well as 30mm/1.2" wider.

On the 255 vs 265; Like I said, the 265 is 14mm/0.55" taller, as well as 10mm/0.4" wider.

There are many tire size calculators available online. Search on Google for them, they may help you figure out what part you calculated incorrectly.

I was looking at the original post were he said he was currently running 235's and did my math off of 235/75r15 vs 265/75 r 15, and thats were i screwed the pooch  my bad i just got off work when i did my math and i should had known better than to try and do higher math that late... but the math does work if he would have been asking about a 265/75r16 lol

Installed the 255/70-15 Generals today.  Total with install $467.  I am happy with that.  And they are surprisingly quiet.  Thanks for the help guys!
