Original Vehicle: 1979 C10 5.7L 350 VIN Code L with factory A/C, HD Suspension, 4BBL Carb. (Nothing seems to match the original vehicle parts specs so I need help identifying some things)Hello! I recently began an unintended project restoring a 1979 Chevy C10 that originally had a 5.7L 350 V8, factory A/C, HD Suspension. I was told the truck had a rebuilt 350 from a newer model TBI truck that was converted back to carb and put in this 1979 but I recently found that not to be true by the casting numbers. I believe the engine is a later 80's model 305 and I can't figure out what year the carb is but I believe it's an M4M or M4MC?. However the previous owner ripped out the compressor and most of the wiring and didn't hook anything back up when the 305 was installed. So... I am looking for a definitive answer on the following as when I buy parts, they are usually similiar but never the right fit and have needed to be returned or slightly modified. My goal is restore the truck as close to factory as I can which means swapping back to a 350 if this is indeed a 305 but while I need to get the current setup road ready to where it will at least pass inspection. Plus if I have to buy a new 350 engine, I'll need a couple months to save so I want this engine to be tuned right and everything working. Picture 2 is the number off the intake and not the casting number on the back of the block.Removed: The picture of the engine mount1. Casting # 14093627: What year engine is this? The Casting numbers to the left and right of the distributor say "GM50LG SGT" and the casting number appears to be 14093627 but I couldn't get a picture. I want to know what year and size engine this is so I can make sure to buy the correct parts. I have narrowed it down to a late 80's model 305 but I could be wrong. I purchased a temperature sending unit for a 1979 5.7 350 and it appears to be the same one used for a 305 throughout the 80's but when I pulled the old one out, the thread fitting was a smaller size so the new one wouldn't fit. Also, the engine has a vacuum/sending unit by the thermostat that isn't connected and a oil pressure switch/sender by the oil filter that isn't connected to anything either. I also found what I believe is an Oxygen Sensor wire that isn't hooked up to anything and I can't get the instrument cluster's temp gauge working. I got the Oil Pressure gauge working but I'm not sure if it's right as the oil pressure tends to run high(close to 60) most of the time the vehicle is running down the road. 2. What year carb is this for? I've narrowed it down to a 4barrel quadrajet but can't figure out the exact year it was made or what year vehicle it came off of. 3. What in the world is this? I found it in the glove box. Was told A/C just needed a compressor. Turns out none of the vacuum lines are connected in the engine bay. Behind the dash, the heater orange hose that has the tee is connected. Heater blows (floor only?) at the same speed no matter what speed the switch is set to or what temperature or even if you turn it off. That tells me it's a vacuum issue but I can't tell from the service manual exactly what this is or where it goes. It doesn't appear to just "fit" on anything already under there. Thank you for the help! I have wasted so many hours trying to figure these things out and it's a big hassle ordering parts and having to return them several times. This is a project I didn't want or plan on but once I started fixing stuff I decided I'd take it on and do it all the way. So far I've replaced the master cylinder, all the steel brake lines, front and rear hoses, rear drums, shoes, hardware, calipers, tie rods, power steering gear, power steering pump, power steering hoses, all the temperature sending units, speedo cable, and much more so you can imagine my frustration having to return parts or take them back to the store. I finally quit ordering them off rockauto because every one I got was wrong or adaptable but was a struggle to do so.
