i won't be doing this anytime soon, but i wanted to post here so i wouldn't forget. Also, it may be helpful for others:

This could make adding fuel injection fairly easy and straightforward----there is no need to modify the fuel system from tank to pump. You just run the existing output of the stock fuel pump to this sump.
Edlebrock makes one too, but it's more expensive:

I'm having start issues with mine. Once started it works great. Not sure if it's the sump or what. My buddy has a 90 dually he switched from tbi to this and put a higher pressure pump in his tank and has had no issues. Been on the phone with them a lot tweaking things and haven't gotten it yet.

So I have the FiTech GoStreet on order and have been looking into the fuel system.
I looked at their Fuel Commander setup and as long as there is a vent line back to the tank that works great. In my case the vent line is long gone. I figured if I have to drop the tank anyway I might as well look into what it would take to get the in tank pump setup.
About the lowest cost setup I found (with some pretty good bargain shopping) was going with a sender unit for an 87 like a Spectra FG05M or FG05N (depending on driver or passenger side) and an AC Delco EP 381 fuel pump. So if I were going just use one tank it would be about $135 for the sender and maybe another $50 if you want to replace all the fuel lines. If i want both tanks setup it would be another $135 for sender and pump plus around $60 for a new Fuel Tank Selector Valve. So around $380 for a much cleaner setup. That's what I am going to run with as I like that I can incrementally upgrade it.

Was your 87 already set up with an intank fuel pump?
BTW, i looked again at Fitech's prices(lower than everyone else) and if it's quality stuff then i may be taking a more serious look at their products.

It's actually a 78, so carbureted. The tanks don't have the baffles so a future upgrade at about $100 a tank. I have heard that s long as you dont go below less than 1/4 tank there should be no issues.

i just want to post here so i don't forget:
i think there was a company that offered/offers a very high pressure mechanical pump that bolts in place of the stock pump. High enough pressure for fuel injection.
This could make switching over to EFI really straightforward.
i don't remember the company and don't have time to search right now though.
b) i think the latest corvette or recent corvettes have/had a mechanical fuel pump.
