Battery wire routing question
« on: March 26, 2016, 05:24:26 PM »
My 1984 Stepside engine was with a replaced 1987 350 and a modified serpentine belt assembly from a S10 truck. The engine harness was chopped and poorly connected to work with the upgraded engine. I'm replacing the engine wiring harness from similar year truck and ran into a road block. After studying the engine wiring harness diagram; I have a couple of questions concerning the battery connection wiring that is not directly a part of the replacement harness.
1. Is the main battery cable supposed to connect to the starter positive post?
2. Is there another cable going from the terminal block that's on the back firewall to the battery (the left connection post on the terminal block will have two wires). See picture.
Thank you for any help.Chuck

Based on the wiring diagram in my Haynes manual there is a wire from the battery to the starter and a wire with a fuse-able link from the battery to the pictured junction block, hope this helps

Yes, that is the same diagram that I used. There is another diagram that show the cable going from the battery to the terminal block and then the to the starter. I know the main battery cable goes to the starter terminal, but is there another cable going from the battery to the firewall terminal and making that 4 wires on that firewall terminal?

The Haynes manual is one size fits none... I mean all. Yeah. That's the ticket.

This is the 1984 GM wiring manual.  It'll show what was installed in Flint, Jaynesville, etc.

Thank you for the book of the secret to the universe!! Awesome

Glad it helped.  If you want a hardcopy get the 1984 GM CK Light Truck Service Manual.  The wiring is in the back.  Be aware.  1981-1985 are harder to find than other years.  Be patient they do show up.

More of my scanned manuals.
