Anyone rebuilding original radio's?   I'd love to keep the original equipment if I can.

If it works and is in good physical shape, I know a guy.  He'll clean the contacts and install a MP3 jack in it if you like.  He's done a few of mine.

Or you could get a can of contact cleaner, clean it, and add the Aux input yourself.  It is not hard at all.

There's a guy called Wonderbar Man that repairs older radios.  Never used him myself.  I do MY OWN.  I don't do repairs for others.
The 86 should still be 1960's & 70's tech radios or similar enough that they can still be repaired with discrete components.

Any recommendations for the contact cleaner?

Any electrical contact cleaner with the little straw nozzle attachment.  There are small holes in the backs of the potentiometers and you'll need to be able to get the nozzle in there to spray out the crud.  Maybe a little compressed air to blow the gunk out too.

Seriously, the removal of the stereo is much harder than the cleaning and adding the input.  There is a lot of SHARP stuff under those old dashboards!  When I was done it looked like my arms were attacked by a cat.  And be sure and attach a long enough lead for the Aux Input to mount where you want it.

Only useful on the Volume and Fader Pots...  If the tuner is out it'll still be out.
I use Caig Deoxit D5 Once it's clean spray with Deoxit Gold.

That doesn't align the receiver, replace Caps that no longer meet spec, or any of the other stuff these guys do.

Thanks Hatzie and Oldgray.  I have several of these Delco radios that I've needed to dig into, just haven't made time for them.
