70 body on 77 frame

Hey I have a 70 Chevy 2wd with a good body and a 77 GMC 4x4 with a badly rotted body. I like the 70 bodystyle a little better, but what be involved in swapping that body onto the 77 frame? I know it'll be a pain, but I have the time and equipment to make it work hopefully. If anyone has done this or has any thoughts I would appreciate the input. Thanks!!

I haven't done it, but all of the body mounting positions are different, and the 73-87 frame is longer than the 67-72.

Thanks for the info... Let me switch it around though. Would it be easier to switch axles and all the 4WD equiptment into the 70 I wonder? I'm sure that would be a project and a half too. Just thinking out loud I guess!

Is the 70 a coil spring rear? I am thinking it is. Mount your rear axle under the trailing arms rather than on top. Make a cross member and use F150 front control arms with taller coils for the front.

My dad has a 62 stepside thats now mine but anyways he took the rearend and front crossmember and put it under the 62 frame. Two holes lined up in on the front and all he had to do was drill out two others ones but the rearend he had to fab some brackets because he stayed with the coils. If you take the axles from the 77 you will have to stay with the leafs since its 4x4 which would be more work because the 70 is coils.

What does 4x4 have to do with the type of springs? Take the trailing arm perches from the coil spring rear and weld them to the top of the 77 rear.
