Swap a 79 2WD A/C Cab onto an 85 2WD Non A/C Truck?
« on: January 07, 2006, 07:03:00 am »
I am looking at 79 Parts truck that has A/C. My 85 Doesn't have A/C. They are both 2WD Trucks.

Can I swap the 79's Cab onto the 85? Or should I look at maybe just swapping the A/C??

I know if I swap just the A/C they'll be some cutting and welding of the 85's firewall.

my own opinion if the a/c is workn id just swap it, less work and either way your doing some cutting whether its or firewall or your cowl to be able to mount your 85's hinges

Thanks, That's true, I hadn't thought of it that way.. probably is the same amout of work either way...

I bought the truck last night for  $300 on ebay.. Turns out The seller bought it in this auction. wanted a few parts was going to auction off of the rest, after a few emails and a phone call We made a deal on the whole truck for the price of buying the motor.

I'll be putting the Old 350 Diesel and A/C from the 79 into my 85.
The bed appears to be in nicer shape than my 85, are the bed a direct swap 73-80 and 81-87???

**** sounds like you gota project lol. good deal on the truck and if he was as anal bout the maintnence on it as the other seller described then it may be easier just to swap your front clip and doors from your 85 t0 the 79. good luck with it anyway

You might be right, just recived some pictures of it and the cab looks to be rust free. I may just put my Core support, headlights, and grill on it and title it as the 85 after a "Cab Swap".

350 diesel......yuck.>:  I'd stay away from GM's attempt at a diesel. I also agree, you should leave the 85 alone and just add the AC to her.

I can't help it... I am drawn to it like a moth to a flame .. One of these when I ready to plunk down big $$, I'll put a 4BT in it.

I'll graft the 79's A/C onto the 85, when it comes time for paint I'll have to fix a rocker and the cab corners but, I have seen very few cabs that didn't need them.
