should I change my running gears for my application?

Hello all I'm new here and maybe this has been addressed but I couldn't find it, since I'm a noobie. But I have a 1978 chevy 4x4 stepside. It's has 350 and the three speed with a granny low. What I would like to do is make it a driver. What I mean by that is able to go down the high way faster than 55 at 3500 rpm should I change my running gears I believe they are 4.11 or go to a different Trans. Or what would my best option be?

"three speed with a granny low" is most likely Muncie SM465.

Is your tachometer working correctly? Even if you had 31" and 4.56 gears then according to that calculator you would be only turning 2700 rpm at 55.

If you like the manual (some people hate it, I love it!) then just change the gears.

something is way off. even with 4.56 and with 28" tires you should only be turning 3000 rpms you shouldnt reach 35 unless youre going 65. what size tires are you running?

Currently I'm running 32s I would like to stay at about the same size. I like the manual as well and would like to keep it. I'll have to check out that calculator!!! And I'm not sure if the tach is correct it is a cheap auto parts one.

A bit of work to swap to a hydro clutch and swap the t case for a 32 spline NP -208.  But it's a sweet shifting Trans with overdrive 5th
