Rear Bumper ID
« on: June 07, 2016, 03:44:52 pm »
Ok, this bumper was on the back of my 84 K2500 when I bought it.  Any thoughts as to if it's aftermarket or???  Got to love the old plate frame and bracket burried up under the truck.

Yes aftermarket.  Trucks with the old plate frame still under are pretty rare.  Your truck had no bumper when it was new and either the dealer put it on or a PO.

Figured as much. The old plate light can be a "spare tire lamp."  :)

Now the million dollar question, no rating stamped on the bumper.  Just how much lbs do you think I can drag behind it?

without a rating I wouldn't do anything over 2000 lb if it were me.

Unless it's a little dinky toy trailer for a couple dirt bikes, or something else really small and light i would't haul anything from the bumper.
A receiver hitch mounted directly to the frame is the proper way to do it, even the Factory Step is only rated at 400 lbs tongue weight

I agree 100%. However looking at the way my bumper is configured there is no room to mount one on the frame, besides the bumper is so low it would block the reciever, no?

too me it looks like your bumper is more or less at the same height as a stock one i would take the truck to the local hitch dealer and look and ask about what they have that will fit, mine is a Reese unit and it drops down from the frame quite a bit to clear the bumper, i couldn't tell you much more than that as it came with the truck.

Interesting,  I thought it was lower and mounted in the same spots in the frame normally reserved for a hitch.  I'll go look again.
