Tailgate post replacement
« on: April 03, 2006, 08:08:00 pm »
My 84 K-10 came with the tailgate unattached due to the posts where the trunnions go being rotted away. I ordered new posts from  , but I have a question. The trunion at the bottom of each side attaches with 2 bolts. The upper bolt attaches to the tailgate post itself, but it seems the lower bolt attaches to a separate piece, maybe the bottom of the quarter. Now where my lower bolt would go is gone. Do they make this section or is it part of another piece? Anyone replace these before or have some info here? Thanks for any help.

I make my own patches for this area as usually the post is in pretty good shape just were the trunions bolt in are gone. I just weld nuts to the back side of my pathes for the trunions to bolt to.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

The lower hole is on the post also, just doesn't look that way now because of the rot.

Those pics helped a ton. The replacement piece doesnt have the bottom hole. It only has two which line up with the upper trunion hole, and the center one. I guess I'll have to fab something up. Think it would be easier to remove the bedside to replace the post? I have other patchwork to do on each bedside, so could do it all while they are off since I know I need all new seam sealer anyway, and wated to remove the bed to POR-15 the underside. Thanks a ton for the pics.

Here is one of my new post, so maybe I am looking at it wrong?
