Meet And Greet
« on: July 24, 2016, 06:13:32 pm »
Hello all! New member and here is my '77 Stepside Custom Deluxe 350 3spd (Column to floor)

Im 29 from Illinois. Ive been a Truck Driver for the last 4yrs and I also served 6yrs Army National Guard.

Pick this truck up about 3 months ago and have yet to do anything to her. The brakes suck so I'll tackle that first. It just has long headers with mufflers attached so I need to handle the exhaust. The temp sending unit is missing the wire so thats on the first up list as well.

I plan on keeping the 350, upgrade to 4 or 5spd, adding AC, mild 4/6 drop, 4wheel disc, 20" wheels and riding her til eternity... (Im going to need help with all that by the way lol)

Take A Look! I look forward to chatting with you guys

Welcome from Southern Oregon.
Looking at your pictures, it looks like your missing your brake booster. Otherwise that's a pretty clean and straight rig.
Are you planning on going with a manual or another automatic?
Thank you for serving.

Yea the truck has standard brakes right now.

I want to stay manual but a buddy of mine just told me he has an automatic 700r4 for sale. I'm not sure how hard it would be for me to find linkage and convert that trans to manual. Or even how difficult it would be to install that trans in my truck period. I have some research to do 1st.

Thank you, I took pride in it. It was a way of making sure I attempted to do at least one thing in my lifetime worth something if nothing else.

If you do go manual get a hydraulic setup from an 80s pick up so you don't have to worry about adjustments. The 700r4 is a good transmission. For manuals, I like the sm 465 I have in mine. Only downfall is that it doesn't have an overdrive. So it gets a little thirsty when you're over 55. I have heard of people putting the nv4500 in as a replacement for the sm465.

two things the temp wire is usually green. and your brakes look like they were vacuum boosted but the booster broke so they just eliminated it and bolted the master to the firewall. afaik thats not even a manual brake master

The front about 4" and the rear probably about 5". I dont think I want to do an axle flip and the lowest I think I can go with shackles and hangers is 5" which is ok with me.

Wow man, shows you how much I know lol. I know there were some that came with manual brakes so I thought nothing of it.

Im aware of the wire being green but I cant find it. I cant locate it at the firewall. There is a green wire going to the carb I thought was it but I was told it was the choke/kickdown.

someone could of put the wrong sending unit in just to plug a hole or it was the original sending unit for that motor someone swapped in. test a wire see if it puts 12v out at anytime (key on and off) if no power ground it out the temp gauge will peg out when you find the right wire.

i wrote most of this up a while ago, afaik its good info.

your master cylinder didnt sit right with memory about the manual cylinder. but i have been wrong before  8) but to me the brake line coils look like theyre bent back towards the firewall instead of straight up and down. tell you the truth i didnt know any master will bolt to the firewall
