Check out these NOS running boards!
« on: August 09, 2016, 08:17:58 am »
My mom has been cleaning out their basement, so after work yesterday I was getting some of my parts and other junk, that I had stashed over there.....then happened upon these jems! They're NOS Kenco SX-250 running boards, straight outta the 80's! I remember the Christmas my mom bought them for my dad, back when he had an 85 F-250 that my mom couldn't get in.....I still remember mom getting mad when he wasn't thrilled and must've made some comment about not needing them or something. Looks like they were a whopping $49.99 at Ames. Anyway, they've apparently been down there since Christmas of somewhere between 88-90. They've still got old yellowed wrapping paper pieces on the box. They've never even been cracked open! I'll probably save them for when I re-store My Papaw's 86 K-20, that already has a faded and bent up set. They're not my style, but they remind me of him and that's part of what makes that old truck, the old mans farm truck that it's been since day 1.

Yea I've come to like them too. I really can't imagine the truck without them anymore. And in my opinion, I think it has kept the rocker panels in good shape because they're blocking the water sling back.

ive heard people say they will trap water and cause it to rust faster. mine has them dont know if it came from the factory with them but since it was a military truck i kind of doubt that but anyway my rockers are rusted but so is everything cause it came from NY. my buddy has a 90 crew with them on and his rockers look brand new minus the paint

the big rust prevention factor is that the running boards stop stones and road debris from being blasted up at the rockers and eating through the paint, my dad put a set of running boards on his 2001 dodge in the first year and it has zero rust on the rockers or bottom of the doors

It's probably all in how they mount on too. Mine block all rocks and water from slinging into the rockers. BUT my truck is also in really really good shape over all anyway. Regardless I like the look of them now.
