Late Model 4L80e Pan on Early Model?

Is there any technical reason why I could not fit the 1997-2000+ 4L80e Transmission pan on my 1991 4L80e?  The reason why I ask is it has a drain plug in it stock (GM 24204278), Filter (GM 89016656).  Also...while cast aluminum is nice, it isn't as forgiving at a steel pan!  You can bash a steel pan and be okay, but not an aluminum one.  I would also get the GM composite, reusable gasket (GM 8677743).

Aluminum pans increase the structural rigidity of the case and with a quality gasket virtually eliminate leaks. Aluminum all day long.

i dont know why but they require a different filter also. 91-96 is one while 97+ is another

Some pans are deeper than others and the filter sits different against the bottom of the valve body, thus the different filters.

The 4L80E was redesigned the lubrication system 1997.   Everything  from the center support back has differences.
