Factory tach question

My factory tach is reading 2500 rpms at idle is my tach bad or could there be somthing else

Please include Year, Make, Model etc.. when posting

Does the tach drop to zero when ignition is first turned on before starting?

It's difficult to know just how much you don't know until you know it.
In other words... if people learn by making mistakes, by now I should know just about everything!!!
