Camshaft question

[A-Rod]

I want to get a camshaft on my 350 TBI engine to get more hp and get it to sound better. I was told that anything over a 290 will make the engine get hot on the long run and possibly mess it up.
 Not sure what 290 means but still want to see if someone has done it and what to use without damaging the engine. I recently got a true dual on it and supper 44 flowmaster. This is an 87 Chevy silverware v10. Any ideas?

Because they use a MAP sensor, the vacuum needs to stay relatively high.  Great info at tbichips.com . He has a recommended cam list. He has ECM chips that will let you run a more aggressive cam with a little lower vacuum. Worth your time to read his page before buying a cam.
