Hey guys, figured it was time to make an account vs just lurking.
I have an 83 c10. 250 straight 6, three speed manual, full bed, single cab, unknown mileage, old tan on tan work package truck.
My buddies grandpa bought it brand new in 83, gave it to his son when he died, who then gave it to my buddy when he got his license and drove it up until his parents deemed it unsafe because the master cylinder had failed.
So they were gonna junk it, i jumped in (at the time my old car had a blown engine) and they gave it to me instead. Fixed the brakes, and a new set of tires later we were off.
His uncle, back in the day did a horrible hack job of the shifter when swapping it to the floor and used probably the cheapest one you can find. You truly have to know how to drive THIS truck to be able to drive it. $400 isnt easy to come by atm to get a mastershift kit from hurst. So my speedo doesnt work also so you just kind of go with it lol.
Recently i ripped out what was left of the old flooring and replaced it with some tan carpeting i got at work that they ripped out to redo. Works great for the ol chevy.
Then, when replacing the carpet, i pulled the bench seat and placed a foat matress topper over it folded twice and ducttaped the entire thing around and threw a seat cover on it. (impossible to find a properly fitting seat cover) but it was close and a nice canvas material, that of a tent. Not that cheap cloth that will rip easily. This job was necessary as the heavy clutch and old warn down seat was killing my back. (I injured it at my last job).
** next job to tackle is to redo the dash with expanding foam, epoxy and spray liner. Shes not meant to be a show truck, just a reasonable looking old girl and second driver.

Welcome from Alaska.
I really like the 250 or 292 backed by a 3 speed or 3 speed w/ overdrive in these trucks.

Thanks guys, ill be driving the girl a bit more, its a lot more comfortable after modifying the bench seat. Also, my jeep threw the idler pulley pulling into my brothers driveway. So, until payday i'm driving the chevy! I had the money for new parts and such, but i got a good deal on a used car for my mom so i bought that to get her back into a decent car. Then the jeep broke, go figure right?
