yet another new rig, and a new web forum to learn about it and support the habit... it's a vicious cycle, but it keeps me out in the garage and keeps the sanity in check.
hey all, new to "square" trucks, but my DD is a pretty beat 98 K1500 i've had for about a year, and previously had an 06 Silverado 2wd for a few years. i've always liked trucks but never had time to get one as a toy. built a few hot rods when i was younger but ended up being a Jeep freak and spent alot of years lucky enough to make a few $$ building them for other people to finance the habit. but real life takes over and the recession killed that business.
i just scored a pretty well-used 78 C20 3+3 "trailering special" that just grabbed my attention and wouldnt let it go. the body is pretty rusty and crusty in every place you can imagine, but the frame is absolutely immaculate. floors are ok, but the windsheild frame and the firewall are pretty bad. i'd look for a new cab, but i dont imagine there are many rust-free 3+3 cabs in existence, so i better get to work honing my sheet metal welding skills. the interior is complete but smells like a dead cat, so we are talking about a total resto there as well.
stock 350 with a dirty Qjet runs ok, it's gonna stay put at least until the rig is drivable. that will give me time to think about the new power plant.
an easy swap would be a 5.3L or 6.0L swap, but part of me wants an old-school 502 with a big Holley on top.
regardless, i'm looking forward to building something new and learning a whole new kind of vehicle.
