Engine Trouble.

Hey Guys.

Have a 73' Chevy C20.
Great truck. Broken fuel gauge.

Yesterday I get it, turn the key, it's out of gas.
I get 2 gallons, pour it in, she rolls over.
I drive off. Go to gas station, fill it up and she only takes 6 gallons.

That's 8 gallons in on a 20 gallon tank?
So, now I'm think maybe something else was stopping the fuel from getting to the engine and pouring 2 gallons in helped pressure in the line?
Broken or wearing fuel pump? Fuel sending unit?

This makes more sense, as I always keep my truck fueled because of the broken fuel gauge.
When it wouldn't start because of it, I had figured my girl was driving and didn't top it off like I do.

Has anybody ever had this issue before?

The mechanical pump is working on suction, so more or less fuel in the tank wont matter.
Check your filters?

just a guess.......been settin long enough......for fuel line rot in tank?

Hasn't been sitting long enough as it's my regular drive.

The mechanical pump, meaning, the fuel pump is mechanical? If so, great to know.

A co-worker recommended taking the air filter off and peaking inside the carb with a flashlight to make sure the fuel is making it inside when someone else
taps the pedal.

Been getting cold out but, it's LA, it's only 65 degrees and I went out at noon on a sunny day.
It rained the night before... But it didn't really sound like a cold start.

If it was a cold-start, anyone have an experience with battery insulators?
