Tailgate won't fit
« on: December 27, 2006, 11:18:00 am »
The tailgate on my '85 sits about 1/2-3/4" low. I was looking in   that new trunions are only $15. I just had a question before I bought them. I didn't think the tailgate and trunion were supposed to be metal on metal, Is that correct? Will the new ones have rubber on them? If not, I have no need to buy them. I just couldnt think of why the factory would make them metal on metal. THanks

They are metal on metal. I have no idea why it would sit low.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Isn't there alittle adjustment on the pivots for the tailgate?Or is it an older tailgate on a newer truck. I tryed to put a newer tailgate on a older truck and the left side pivot on the gate was bigger and it wouldn't fit.

Yes, the adjustments are all the way up. Its an '85 or '86 tailgate going on an '87 bed. I think I will just have to drill new holes to mount the trunions. Thanks
