Lower 87 Chevy
« on: February 02, 2017, 08:35:44 am »
I'm new to lowering trucks, so bear with me. On my 87 r10 Chevy 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive short
Box, I want to be conservative, so l'm thinking of cutting 1 full coil from front springs, and on rear
It sits quite high now as it has 5/1 rear springs. I want to remove 2 leaves , meaning #2 and #4
Of the longest leaves. How much will I gain here? Also, I bought 2" shackles for rear. Will I have to remove part of box frame brace for shackles? I'm hoping to level out truck to 2"  drop from front cut coils. Am l in the ball park or not? Will I need new shocks for rear? Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.   Jerry

1 cut coil will equal a 2 inch drop in the front. If you have a drop shackle in the rear you will have to notch the bed where it comes down lower otherwise the shackle will hit the bed. wont need new shocks.

Not sure man, but you can find out by measuring from center of spindle to the bottom of the wheel fender. 19.5 inches is factory. thats for front and rear. I do know some trucks came with as many as 7 leaves while some like mine came with only 3. If anything I would remove the overload spring (thick flat one)
